How does the American government resemble the government of Great Britain?
Professor Steven Calabresi explores how the Founders drew from their knowledge and experience of both British government and the local colonial governments. While the separation of powers in the Constitution looks similar to the British parliamentary system, the Founders ingeniously introduced democratic elections to hold the governmental parties accountable to the people.
Professor Steven G. Calabresi is the Clayton J. & Henry R. Barber Professor of Law at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. He is Chairman of the Federalist Society's Board of Directors.
